Leonardo Nierman

Consecrated artist Leonardo Nierman was born in 1932. He is one of the greatest Mexican artists of all time, equated by many as the Mexican Picasso.

His extensive artistic production includes painting, sculpture, murals, printmaking, tapestry design, and glass engraving. Nierman created a unique and unremarkable style within movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism. In his work, many interests converge, like the relationship between the subject and his aesthetic perception of the world, the cosmos, light, and movement.

Leonardo Nierman has participated in more than 100 solo exhibitions in galleries, museums, and cultural centers in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. His sculptures, paintings, murals, and tapestries can be found in the world’s most important museums and collections worldwide.

This master of the arts has been recognized with plenty of awards, among which the following stand out:

• Palme d’Or for the Fine Arts of Monaco (1969)
• New York Royce Medal (1970)
• The Golden Medal of the Chicago League of Art (1980)
